Desire on Fire

Feb 23, 2022

Is our school system currently doing a good job of educating our children around sex? Is there a right or wrong time to discuss sex with our kids? It can definitely be an awkward topic that seems easier to avoid but we’re here to tell you that these conversations are beyond essential to your child’s sexual development. Today we are exploring what it really means to be sex positive parents with Dr Holly Richmond, a somatic-psychotherapist, marriage and family therapist, author and national and international sex therapist. We hear her remarkable story on how she set out as a Creative Writing teacher at a girl’s prison but then found her true calling to help people on their sex and relationships and journeys of intergrating their sexual traumas to finding consensual, pleasurable sex again.

We find out:

How to create safe learning opportunities and embrace your child’s curiosity around sex.

Recognising your child’s communication style in order to have the most practical discussions on sex, body autonomy and self pleasure.

That using technical terms for your genitals around your children is integral to their sex education.

That being sex positive isn’t just about having lots of sex but knowing and doing what works for you.

The crucial differences between privacy and secrecy as well as sexual empowerment and affirmation seeking.
